Stars 150+12 Clear Fold?
Tournament is at a late stage with 18 out of 450 people left. I have a stack of 30 OOO chips. A player in early position makes it 7500 to go, which leaves him with 7500 behind. I look on my cards an see AK. What is my right play?
Blinds; 1000/2000 Avg Stack; About 16k. My stack; 8th out of 18 but place 4-8 is about one stolen pot from each other. I would probably be able to fold to the final table and I would for sure find a lot of better opportunities to accumulate chips. So what should I? 1)Fold? 2)Push? If i Loose this hand I will have a real though time coming back. I know he he doesn't have aces or kings but probably has AK QQ JJ TT or Even AQ. I only have the blinds behind me and it is very unlikely that they would choose to get involved. The player that makes the raise is good but he is also in need of chips. I get a feeling that he doesn't want a call/reraise. Payment; 10-18 770usd 9 1k 8 about 1.5k 7 about 2k 6 about 3k 4th about 6k 3rd about 9k 2nd about 13k 1st about 17k |

You don't know for sure that he doesn't have aces or kings. I think his range has to be something like 99+ AJ+, so this is a clear push.

Re: Stars 150+12 Clear Fold?
The Stacks are small compared to the blinds, and his bet is very uninviting. Standard at the table would be like 5500. He makes it another 2 to go. That is why I didn't think AA KK

Re: Stars 150+12 Clear Fold?
I would definitely push this hand, I think that him not raising the standard bet is not a reason to eliminate AA, KK from his range. His range will be much loser than you said... with an M under 5, the only scary thing about this hand is that he raised 1/2 his stack rather than pushing

Re: Stars 150+12 Clear Fold?
I understand how you think when you say "not raising standard is not a reason to eliminate AA KK". But I don't think he can afford suh a play, since he is getting desperate for chips, and that play makes him less likely to accumulate some. In my opinion his raise says that he prefers to take the pot here and now and that he guarantees to call you if you push.

Re: Stars 150+12 Clear Fold?
What we meant is that you are never sure. You gotta put the guy on a range of hands (like I did above) and you can't rule out AA and KK. You're ahead of his range, plus there is dead money (blinds + antes). +++++++++++++++++EV

I cannot fold AK here. You need to gambool it up and accumulate chips to win the tournament, not check/fold into 7th.

He has a very wide range.
You have no chips to be folding AK with. This thread is a joke because this is the easiest push in the world. Being results oriented is a bad thing in poker. |
