\'That\'s not how it is where I\'m from!!!\'
I just started dealing a couple weeks ago and this situation arose at the 2-4 game.
Seats 2, 4, and 9 were in the hand. Decent sized pot, the river is out and the action starts on seat 2. Seat 2 checks, seat 4 checks seat 9 bets 4. Seat 2 instacalls and seat 4 mucks. Seat 9 didn't see that seat 2 was in the hand, saw that 4 mucked and thought the hand was over. I understand that if his hand goes into the muck, it's considered dead, but as a dealer, I informed him that he had a caller after he had pushed his winning hand face down forward about 5 inches, (not near the muck, just towards me to trade the pot for his cards.) 'You have a caller sir.' 'Oh...I'm sorry. Nut straight.' Seat starts yelling that he mucked his hand and I had no right to let him know about the other player in the hand. I just can't see that being right. I shrugged it off and as I sent the pot to seat 9, the 107 year old man just kept saying over and over... 'That's not how it is where I'm from!!!' What's fair is fair...everyone knew the situation, to any other dealers out there, I'm sure you've seen this happen many times, what would you have done? |

You are correct.
As long as his cards did not tough the muck. Sometimes it is hard to see who is in when people have their hands over their cards etc. |

Re: \'That\'s not how it is where I\'m from!!!\'
I do the same thing in low limit. People are there for a good time, there's always some nit who feels he should get the pot even though he called with the worst hand. He wouldn't want me doing that crap. I do the exact same thing. One time I did it with a floor standing right behind me the guy got all pissed and the floor said "He grabbed his hand back before the dealer mucked it." He then said "I should have mucked it." The guy stormed off(after going all in for the 5th time) and the floor left(we were doing a fill) and everyone was like that guy's nuts and I just said "It's low limit, nobody here is an expert, there's no way I'm mucking that hand. Ever."(unless guy was an Ahole then it's insta muck)

Nh sir.
107 year old is a crybaby nit - I'm glad he was displeased, trying to have a pot pushed to him that he wasn't entitled to. Let him go back to wherever it is he's from and stay there. |

Cards can be retrieved from the muck in the best interest of the game if a mistake was made. |

If the room has a rule that the other guy would still have to show to win the pot just wait for the other guy to show. Gives seat 9 a chance to reconsider. Of course you'll still catch **** for not mucking his hand promptly, but at least you're not overtly telling him what to do.

Seat 2 sounds like an unpleasant person, an angle shooter and a poor sportsman.
