Default Buy in

What do you guys recommend buying in for? On FTP at .25 .50 they recommend 5.00 but that seems short. On PS they recommend 10.00 for the same game.

How many big bets do you like to buy in for?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. People around here usually recommend keeping at least 12 BB in front of you at all times so you can afford to cap every street w/o going all in before that happens. Beyond that, people will buy in with 20-50 BB so they don't have to rebuy all the time. Beyond that, it doesn't really matter.

That only applies to no-limit games. And FWIW its even better to have your entire roll at one table because you will win more when you river someone that way.

Sitting with 5 at .25/.50 isn't enough. That's like trying a 10BB challenge every time you sit. I always sit with 25-30BB.

BTW, you can't do his approach in NL, and his formula is obviously correct-a-mundo!

I buy in for 30 BBs, although--admittedly--my reasons for this are entirely dogmatic and I only started doing it because I saw bravos1 bought in for that much in his MicroPoster video!

I buy in for an amount where I don't have to check my balance if I am being nitty on a move up with short bankroll.

For example now I am playing 1/2 6 max with $530 in the account. If I go below 450 I want to move back down to the lower limit and try again at 1/2 when it gets to 480 so I have 15 bb to try and make it for another challenge.

So for now I am buying in for 80 or 40 bb, when it gets above 50bb I just buy in for that now or if the tables are good I pick two and split the bank again.
