Do you prefer a check behind, or a bet here?

I prefer a bet. You are HU, you hit a piece, and you hold the ace of hearts. I bet $1.25 here.

I'd play it the same. If you check he may take a shot at you with hands you beat and you won't really know where you stand. If he calls/raises, you can narrow his range a bit.

Just checking... my standard line is to bet here, but was wondering if it's better to check behind on such a raggy board.
