quick legal/rent question that google failed to answer
in new york state, if you are evicted, does that absolve you of any debts to the landlord? i've been told that it does, but i haven't been able to understand the legalese in the various relevent websites. thanks in advance.

In the state of NY if you're evicted you owe the amount of rent you're behind as well as any interest that could have been gained from that money. Payments shall be determined according to your current salary.

Yeah, don't let this linger over you. I'm trying to get a place right now, and one of the other guys had an eviction 6 3/4 years ago on his credit report, and it's been a problem with a couple places. It doesn't even matter that he moved out because they wouldn't do anything about the drug dealers shooting guns at 2 a.m.
