Part beat part brag, my friends dont have tons of money like I do
It sorta sucks sometimes. I don't have anyone to commiserate with because my friends would think I'm a huge prick. How do you handle making 6 figures when ur friends barely make 5?
Anyone else feel the same way. BBV support group? |

Never really found it a problem. Just buy my friends the odd extra round of drinks. Shout them a takeaway every now and then.
None of us make a deal out of it. |

Re: Part beat part brag, my friends dont have tons of money like I do
It sucks in college but it evens out a bit in the real world if your friends are smart and ambitious. I imagine it is more difficult to even out in a place like Thailand.
I'm not making a killing at my job but with poker I earn six figures. My local friends right now are doing anything from -grad school -artsy film crap -some entry level investment bankers (prolly like 80k/year) -other finance/businessy/pr type work that pays not great starting off There is almost no difference between a single 22 year old earning 80k and a single 22 year old earning 220k in a big Canadian city. You both can afford to go to nice places to eat, go out for drinks, buy rounds, etc. You both are going to be living in nice places downtown. It is a big difference for people working in nonprofit or in school, but I just use the 2-1 rule (it's 3-1 with my gf). For every dollar they pay, I try and pay 2 (3 with my gf who works in non-profit). It works pretty well as long as you don't make a big deal out of it. Example...I had a barbeque for 6 of my friends this sunday. Got a bunch of expensive meat and asked people to bring token stuff (Condiments, dessert, salad). so each person probably spent 6 bucks or so and I spent about 30. Another way to think about it that makes it easier for me is in an economic theory sense. We all have a standard of living we enjoy/are accustomed to. Mine is a bit higher than some people's and I am willing to pay the difference. Ex: if my gf and I want to go out to eat and she wants to get $7/plate chinese food and I want to get $30/plate steak dinner, I'll pay the difference to get it. |
