Default Turning TP w AQ

1/2 6 handed, I dont really know anything about villian.
I don't have a full buy in, ~$150 and villian has me covered.

Preflop; I make it $8 from HJ with AQo and bb calls.

Flop (pot $17); 359r I bet $14 and bb calls.

Turn (pot $45); Ar I bet $29, bb min raises and I fold.

I figured he made aces up or flopped a set. Is it weak to fold here or am I usually beat?

No replies? Is it an easy decision?
Do people do this as an outright bluff, puting me on a big pp?

This forum is low-traffic, but very high-signal. You have to be patient sometimes.

Folding here is fine. I'd call based on a read that the opponent either bluffs or tends to overvalue a hand we beat here. A good portion of the range you beat now is a bluff, and most of the rest are overvalued hands like AT. Most opponents aren't aggressive enough to raise that hand here tho, so folding is fine as long as he's unknown.

By the way, I would not CB that flop 100%. Maybe 50% or even less. It's not a great flop for a CB, because you will get a lot of calls from small pairs.

Check the turn and call a river bet if you don't improve. It's the best way to get value from hands that you beat.

As played, a turn min-check raise is usually a hand that wants what you are repping (AK) to call, so without any kind of a read folding is fine.

The flop c-bet is a limit habbit i suppose. I'll start thinking about that.

Checking the turn and calling river seems like a good plan. I guess checking with a made hand is something im not used to, but need to learn to do in the right spot.

Yeah, I like the turn check. Here's a handy rule I devised that helps in situations like this: if your opponent is an idiot (and even sometimes when he's not), and you raise preflop, the hand he puts you on is A-x. I can't tell you how often this works. This can create some problems when you actually do have A-x, as you see here, but works great other times. You can bluff at any A that falls, and get value in other situations.

But here, your opponent has correctly read your hand and says he can beat it. So fold. But note how well this same line would work if you had, say KQs or 99. With the former, you probably fold out most of his medium pairs and draws once the A hits; with the latter, you get paid off by his A5 or 33.

I actually don't mind your play against an unknown. Many players will continue to call with weak draws/lame pairs/etc.

Checking this turn is an option. Given 0 reads/history, I would say that my standard is to bet in position though. I think that folding is probably okay. I also agree with a flop check, it's a decent spot for one.

Yeah, check the turn here. Clear spot for pot control....you have a hand that can only win a medium size pot. There aren't many cards on the river that will make you sick. The c/r on the turn made you sick. Avoid things that make you sick. Embrace things that will not make you sick.
