Default 10NL: JJ - I\'m supposed to raise PF aren\'t I?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (9 handed) internettexasholdem.com

CO ($15.30)
Button ($15.10)
SB ($7.90)
Hero ($16.50)
UTG ($3.25)
UTG+1 ($5.40)
MP1 ($10)
MP2 ($2.60)
MP3 ($20.70)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls $0.10, 3 folds, MP3 calls $0.10, 2 folds, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($0.40) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players)

I didn't raise because I figured I would be c-betting into 2-3 people oop. 2 people in the hand are fairly loose. What do you say?

Edit: Amazingly standard hand but each option felt awkward.

Always raise your good hands for value unless for the sake of variation... But I wouldn't vary on the BB. Make it 0,70 to go you have the best hand preflop and you want to get some value out of it. So what if you have to C-bet into two people who are loose, most likely they don't hit anything on the flop. The scenario which came out is more worse if you ask me. If the SB bets this flop I am raising like hell, but I could be folding to to much action from MP3. If SB checks I will bet like 0,50 in this pot and again only fold to to much action of MP3. I don't put people on made straights or flushes but they could have a few nice draws.

You raise because you have a good hand. You also want to protect it by folding out the weak aces and other broadway cards that beat you.

Most of the time a cbet is successful with just air. This time you will even have a hand and in this case a set.

In the future, raise'm up

Grunch

Yes, and as you play more you'll get used to the idea. Especially when you have lovely flops like that and 3 other people sitting in the hand. I raise a little bit more than the standard 4x+1 per limper because I'm OOP the whole hand. To something like .80 or .85.

Two reasons you really need to raise this preflop.

1. For value - As you likely have the best hand.

2. Because you will be OOP the rest of the hand - You want to punish those players who want to play against you with a weak hand. You don't want people to see a cheap flop with Axs/suited connectors/small pocket pairs/broadway cards.

You cut down on implied odds when you raise. Both SB and UTG are taking the worst of it if you raise to something like .80 and they still call. Why? Becuase they can't make enough when they hit because their stacks are not big enough. You not only want people to put money in the pot as a mistake, you also really want people to fold so you can play heads up. Heads up this flop bother's me less

As mentioned by previous poster, you definitely have the best hand preflop, and the fact that you will be OOP post-flop is precisely why you need to raise this strongly. Make it pay to play.

As played, I would make a pot-sized bet on the flop and probably call a push as you still have 10 outs to a fullhouse / quads.

Not raising is fine if you want to play JJ for set value imo.

I think JJ is too weak for set mining, I only set mine with AA and KK...

If you don't flop quads, just fold your JJ
