Default Raise pre, check fold post

A long while back, i made a post asking when it was appropriate to be checking flops, for any various reasons. I got a lot of excellent feedback, and since then have found a lot of spots where it is clearly the best play.

However, one situation i'm still not very good at is raising pre and knowing when to just give up post, particularly heads up.

Clearly when you raise AK pre, get 2 callers and get 89J flop, it's pretty simple.

However, there are many situations where i get only 1 caller pre and find unfavorable flops for my hand, but am still not sure when i need to C bet and when the situation favors the C/f.

Can you guys give me some guiding factors to find a balance here. Factors like:
1. Both players positions
2. Both players stack sizes
3. Board texture
4. Players images, whether they know each other, how good they are.

Anyone that can lend some specific examples (particularly mid or late tournament game) would be of great help.

Thanks, Bond

As fast as me head is racing, there are a ridiculous amount of factors that come into play with my CB's.

I was a cash pro through college and now I play MTT's and CB's/double-barreling is so much more intricate in MTT's as I'm learning.

Things that I'm come across relating to your questions:

- I'm more likely to CB OOP than in position. Not smashing the flop is easier to get away from OOP after a CB. But, in position, you hit a bottom pair/good draw, taking a free one is an underused advantage because not only are you giving yourself a chance to hit a big hand, but you're (a) giving your opponent another shot to bet into you when they make a lesser hand or the made hand they were planning on CR'ing the flop, (b) giving your opponent the chance to bet a wider range because you didn't CB, (c)giving your opponent the chance to check twice, so if you miss that draw you flopped, you know your FE is greater than had you CB'd.

- As for textures, I flip-flop a lot depending on players. Personally, I enjoy the large field rebuys ($10/$20), so I encounter mostly randoms and the stacks are deep. Generally, unpaired I hate CB'ing flops with 2 cards T+ OOP- esp if I have a flush draw. Of course, this is when my flush draw is low so I have no combo.

I'm real drunk right now. I'll come back to this tomorrow, re-read what I typed, call myself an idiot, and revise.

Oh also, obvious examples like you raise 88 in EP and get an MP caller and TJQ flop not necessary. I'm bad at poker OOP, but i'm not a total idiot.

Hope this isn't too obvious and standard... I just thought it was interesting bc after he showed AJ, I realized if I had in fact cbet this flop he probably would have jammed it.

I think thats a horrible spot to check behind..if you want him to fold a king you better put in a bet on the flop.

Bond - this question is just too vague for me to give a specific answer other than "when i feel like i'm getting called" or "when I feel like i'm gonna need 2 barrels and my stack size prohibits such a move."
