Some PF Questions

I'm getting into some mid stakes now, and I'm dealing with some better regs. I'm trying to work a couple things out.

1. Let's say a good tag opens for 4x from HJ and you're on teh button. What are you doing with say ATs? AJs? AJo? AQo? I got myself into a hand like this with ATs today, and a friend of mine wanted to know why I called PF. "What were you hoping for?" Decent question I thought.

2. I'm not even sure how to express this because it's something that's new to me. In limit I hardly ever played hands like J9, etc. However, I'm starting to see that with hands like that, you often get into a card tangled mess. With those hands, we're often looking for 2 pair or better. Problem is, when you do hit 2 pair, it normally comes with headaches on flops like J98 or whatever. I'm starting to hate those mid gappers.

3. I'm starting to sense the danger of small pps in these games.

Any general comments or something that can give me clarity of thought on any of these topics?
