Is this standard? Question regarding WSOP Europe
Day 1a of the tournament is September 10th, 1b is the 11th, and they draw for seats on September 9th which means that all players must be registered by the 9th.
This means that if someone turns 18 on the 10th or 11th, they won't be able to play despite being of age when the tournament starts. |

Re: Is this standard? Question regarding WSOP Europe
No, it's not standard. WSOP and WPT events generally allow people to register and buy in to events right up until kickoff time on Day "1D" (or whichever is the last "Day 1")--often, they even allow alternates in through the first level or so of any given "Day 1".
However: I think the way the WSOP Europe is doing it is a more fair method. It ensures an equal amount of players on each Day 1. This year's WSOP had four Day 1's--there was a significant difference in how deep the fields were on each of the four. I think the biggest difference was several hundred or so players. It's unlucky for you if you're on the age bubble--but I approve of the idea behind this policy. Here's another related issue: During some of the Bellagio Cup tournaments that ran during the WSOP this year, some people entered on Day 1A, got eliminated, then entered again on Day 1B! Somebody made it deep into the event this way, until some other player realized that he was playing against a guy he'd already busted. Hadn't heard about this before, and it's not standard--but I think it should be. |

So what happened? From your wording it sounds like the guy was caught and kicked out of the tourney? Was that against the Bellagio rules or what.

Re: Is this standard? Question regarding WSOP Europe
This has to do with UK law. I remember for the EPT they specifically said that you must be in your seat at the start of the london events or you will not be able to play.
If this is still the case, which I am guessing it is, it means they need to close registration at one point and declare that the 'start' of the tournament. |

[/ QUOTE ] Umm..does it surprise you that re-entering the same tournament from which you had already been eliminated would be declared to be a violation of the rules? The guy was tossed from the tournament, his stack either blinded off or just killed, I don't remember which now. Part of the problem is that Bellagio doesn't use some kind of "player's card" to facilitate registration, the way nearly every other casino does. They still use pen and paper, and so leave themselves wide open for this kind of angle-shoot. |
