Default I recommend a front credit account to everyone

I don't know if that's exactly what it's called as I was filling out the paperwork for after working for 4 hours, sitting in my car for five, playing for 14, and being awake even longer than that, but it definitely had the word front in it.

I got this at the Borgata but I'd imagine every casino offers it. I got it done in the high stakes pit in the Borgata(where that little waterfall thing is) Just ask a floor for help.

I drive a long way, and through some bad areas to play cards for money, and I don't really like bringing a lot of cash on me; I'm small, nerdy and I bruise easy.

I asked the poker room about getting a box, they basically laughed at me and said that even 40-80 regulars have a hard time getting boxes(??) I asked the cage about getting a box, they wouldn't do it. I asked the front desk, only if I have a room. Then I asked a bored floorperson if I'd be better off buying big chips(1k and 5ks) so if my money got stolen they could track it.

He said I'd be better off getting lammers. Basically you set up an account with the casino and if you want a marker or whatever, you go to the cage and ask for one and they withdraw X amount from your checking account. You need a blank check, a bunch of stupid stuff from the bank, and you need to call and do a lot of dumb stuff.

I don't really like that.

Then he said well you can set up a front account. The minimum is super-low(Like $1,000 or something, maybe less) And all you do is hand them X amount of cash, sign your name on a sheet of paper, and you're all set. When you want your money you walk up the cage, tell them and they give it to you. Super easy, the whole process took less than ten minutes, and most of it was for counting all the money.

The reason I post this is because I see A LOT of threads about people being very worried about carrying large quantities of money around, and every answer is something about wiring money or something that's at least somewhat inconvenient.

I've been in poker rooms for a few years, and reading this forum for a while, and I've never heard anyone mention this(including like 2/3 of the Borg staff) and it was really easy and I didn't need to have any established history or anything like that.

I am sure that all casinos would be happy setting these up for you. Its basically a savings account that doesn't pay interest.

Basically it's a box that you don't have physical access to? Sounds interesting.

You put up front money (cash, check, etc) and draw markers against it up to the amount you have on deposit. When you're done you can either redeposit the money or keep your cash

So this is exactly like a box in concept, except the transactions are tracked?

Yes. When I first moved to Vegas (the first time) I did all my "banking" at the cage in the MGM. The added bonus is having money on deposit and signing markers gets you neat freebies from the casino.

"The transactions are tracked"

Is this going to get reported to the IRS? Cuz if it is I'm just going to leave my initial deposit there and bring everything home with me every time.

This would be so much easier if all the fish would just hand me $200 and I wouldn't have to play poker.

That's called stand-up comedy. I think they have comedy schools if you wan to try to cut the poker out of the routine.

You should ask. You also should keep records, but thats up to you. I know someone who works in the pit at Commerce and frequents my work, told me to get one of these(he said he uses his just like a bank account), kind of laughed off the IRS question.
