It demeans certain professions. I have been in various forms of self-employment off and on for 19 years.

It is a job. Just as real as being on the hamster wheel.

One time, a girlfriend of the director of where I was an independent contractor at asked me when I was going to get a "real job."

With my renegotiated contract, I made MORE than the director most of the time, who was an employee and had a "real job."
