Q: What the [censored]? A: What the [censored]! [/ QUOTE ] LOL I'm guessing he means CNE Casino in Toronto that opens up for 2 months every year. Also known as the biggest donkfest in Canada, possibly North America. |

Re: CNE: who\'s playin?!?!?
It's only open two months a year? What do they do with the space during the other ten months?

Re: CNE: who\'s playin?!?!?
No idea, it's sort of a summer festival. The CNE is open for 1 month, while the casino is open for 2. It's pretty stupid, but it's the only casino in Toronto so there's always tons of people.

Re: CNE: who\'s playin?!?!?
Can't be bothered...traffic is bad getting there, waits are super long, and the rake is high. Last I heard:
$5/10 limit rakes 10% to a max of $7.50 per pot. $10/20 limit rakes 10% to a max of $10 per pot. And, to top it all off, the last time I went, the casino didn't accept 100's. Now, that's just totally absurd. |

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, as I think about it, the more surprising thing about this is staffing rather than space use. A casino needs a staff that is reasonably well-trained and trustworthy in order to handle all that money. How do they get employees on a seasonal basis? Are they temporarily transferred from other casinos? |

Re: CNE: who\'s playin?!?!?
They post on their website that they are hiring dealers. Some get carried over year to year, but you have to pay for them to train you, I think about a month before it opens. A lot of them are young kids just looking for a summer job. The dealers are VERY bad, to no one's surprise.

Re: CNE: who\'s playin?!?!?
Hey, I was there last night! Was going to make a thread tonight but here we are..
This place is open I believe July 30th to September 3rd, so just over one month. I can confirm the high rake, but the games are so damn much fun. I played an hour of 5/10, and 10/20 for 4 hours or so. The tables are 11-handed; mine didn't get shorthanded until after 1am. I showed up around 8:30 on Wednesday night and waited about 45 minutes for a table (18 running and completely packed, half 5/10 half 10/20). I asked how busy the place gets, and I was told people were showing up at 9pm on the weekends, and waiting until 12 or 1am to get a seat! The dealers are not terrible, but aren't the greatest. The players, on the other hand, are terrible The room is nicely air-conditioned (the rest of the 'casino' is not) with a snack bar in the corner serving beer, a few kinds of liquor, and junk food, pop, coffee, etc. You can bring resealable drinks inside (no coffee or pop cans). I had a shot of CC and a Stella, $7.50 each. There's a bunch of ATM's in the main casino and no payphones. Can't confirm the $100 bill problem, but I was paid out in 50's and 20's. General atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly as most of the floormen are in their 20's and probably pretty inexperienced. The tables: Pure fish fest, at least where I was sitting. My 5/10 table wasnt too crazy, but I got to 10/20 and I was sitting in front of a guy who played every hand and raised most of them. Even after he left, the table quieted down for an hour (to about 5 players to a flop) and then just picked up again as the night went on. The last 2 hours I was there, every third hand was capped 6-8 ways pre-flop (yea, $320 in the pot before the flop at $10/20, minus the $10 rake). A typical hand was probably 7-8 to a flop, limped or raised once. Lots of fun, gambler types at the tables. Friendly dealers. If I missed anything you want to know about, just ask |
