conservative bubble play ever called for as chip leader?
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t600 (9 handed) internettexasholdem.com
MP1 (t4295) MP2 (t2890) MP3 (t2660) CO (t10755) Hero (t10985) SB (t9165) BB (t6745) UTG (t3360) UTG+1 (t3145) Preflop: Hero is Button with :kc, :qc. [color=#666666]6 folds</font>, [color=#CC3333]Hero? We had just combined to make this final table. I am chip leader and 6 spots win entry to a bigger tourney and 7th spot gets 3x his buy in back. 8th and 9th get nothing. I had been pretty aggressive positionally stealing blinds and antes when possible but had no read on small and big blind, as the tables just combined. It folds around to me. Should I a.) let the others knock each other out because 6th place is as good as first place. b.)raise all in to steal blinds and antes... conservative play is for pussies!!! or c.) raise some amt. less than all in? |

Re: conservative bubble play ever called for as chip leader?
I'm not a satelite expert, but a raise to 1500 is fine here - both SB and BB are healthy with respect to the rest of the table and aren't going to want to risk anything, so take advantage (a little). Sitting out is fine too, but I just tend toward some aggression in this spots given the game dynamic. Pushing is awful - the SB/BB aren't going to RR you anyway, they will just get a little pissed because why can't you just make nice nice and play along.

If this was standard tourney with 7 spots paid how would this change? would small raise or push be more appropriate?

If you hit? If you miss? (assume the obv. if he goes all in and you missed the flop easy fold) |

Re: conservative bubble play ever called for as chip leader?
Q: conservative bubble play ever called for as chip leader?
A: yes in the late stages of a satellite where you can win the seat without playing any more hands In the posted hand just fold. With your stack you'll finish top 6 and will win a seat without playing any more hands. If you play this hand and increase your stack you add nothing to you chance of qualifying as you already have enough chips. If play this hand and decrease your stack you make it more possible that you won't qualify. Playing this hand will not increase your chance of qualifying, but it could decrease it. So easy fold. Sit back, coast and enjoy the show watching the short stacks battle it out. Also for some extra entertainment watch some big stacks foolishly get involved in big hands and knock themselves out of qualifying when they could have just folded into a seat, lol. Every $2.20 4 table sat to the Sunday Hundred I've played I've seen big stacks bust or nearly bust around the bubble when they didn't have to play another hand. |
