Back pain when running
Disclaimer: I haven't been doing squats and deadlifts, so if that is the answer to my problem I apologize.
Problem: I've been trying to get more running in on the regular, but every time I go, my lower back starts killing me! Background: I used to be a pretty good runner in high school and college. 4:50 mile, etc. I currently play a good amount of full-court basketball, and my back never bothers me when I'm running the court. But when I hit the streets or treadmill for a run, my back starts aching within half a mile. I'm usually warmed up by the time I start running, so I don't think lack of warm-up is a factor. For example, last week I did a fairly intense basketball rebounding exercise and then stretched before getting on the treadmill to run. Any thoughts? |

Re: Back pain when running
I'm routinely bombarded with negative thoughts and body aches in the first half mile, but it goes away. On the other hand, if I'm doing something, and my back starts to kill me, I stop doing that thing.

Re: Back pain when running
Maybe it's your shoes. Those light weight shoes are
fine for Micheal Johnson. But guys like me run like a herd of wild elephants. I need more support. |

Re: Back pain when running
I get the same thing, go to a newbalance store and get a pair of shoes fitted for you, you probably dont have enough support in your heals (at least that was my prob). also stretch out your hammies before a run, a lot of my back problems according to my sports med doc is from not stretching out my hamstrings enough.
