Default 17.5k guaranteed: 99 vs bigstack

Hi

I hate these situations. A call on the flop would have been stupid I guess. I thought about pushing but pushed the fold button in the end.

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $80/$160
8 players
Converter

Stack sizes:
UTG: $8330
UTG+1: $3465
MP1: $12280
DonLigretto: $4095
CO: $5850
Button: $4470
SB: $8300
BB: $19445

Pre-flop: (8 players) DonLigretto is MP2 with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
2 folds, MP1 raises to $480, DonLigretto calls, 4 folds.

Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($1200, 2 players)
MP1 bets $960, DonLigretto folds.
Uncalled bets: $960 returned to MP1.

Results:
Final pot: $1200

This is one of those situations that depends on a read i think, have you seen this guy continuation bet a lot? has he been playing overly aggressive? if he has then I'm pushing here, if he has been playing supertight, then I'm folding, against an unknown, I think a fold is definitely OK.

Fugly stack/blind sizes for this situation, I agree. A raise pre-flop commits you, as does any raise here. Therefore I'm left with hellimcdog's advice, which seems the most sound. If he's a c-better, a push is defensible. Otherwise, go with the "no set, no bet" mentality and muck it. Seems weak, but I don't see a better way to play it.

I agree that reads on villain would be nice. I don't think you can profitably call here PF then fold to a cbet on any flop with an overcard...I mean maybe if an A comes then you can fold but this is not a terrible flop for you. Folding here seems pretty weak to me, but I'm not crazy about the other choices either. Maybe a shove PF if he's opening somewhat frequently?

As played. If you shove, you're only called if you're beat. If you re-raise, you pot commit yourself. You can't fold nines preflop. So I'd do what you did.

My least favorite hand in poker that I now call poison 9's! Give me any hand but. As Bob said, I think you played it very well.
