$22 satellite: 22 UTG+1, 6 remain, 3 paid
6 players remain, 3 get paid.
Blinds $500 / $1000 Chip counts: SB: $7,660 BB: $2,730 UTG: $23,075 Hero: $6,780 CO: $8,755 Button: $8,000 SB posts $500, BB posts $1,000 Dealt to Hero: 22 UTG folds, Hero ??? I really don't know what to do here! Notice that everyone except UTG (who is sitting out) has roughly the same short stack, except BB who only has $1,730 after posting so should call any two. Should I push and race? |

UTG folded and this is a satellite... so you still have tremendous fold equity here. I def shove any pocket pair.

Re: $22 satellite: 22 UTG+1, 6 remain, 3 paid
Definitely shoving. There's too much in the pot preflop to muck these deuces. Plus, the bubble effect should not be in play yet.

Re: $22 satellite: 22 UTG+1, 6 remain, 3 paid
I agree w/ a shove. If you had more chips you could lay it down, but this is getting critical.
Once you have chips you can just keep laying down these marginal spots but until then dig in and shove in this spot. you have like 4.4 M and I doubt that you will find a spot better than this especially w/ the blinds coming in the next 2 hands. Furthermore the one stratosphere chip leader is already out of the hand so have the luxury of crippling or busting every other player at the table. First in vigor should be enough to win the pot barring your opponent waking up w/ a monster. |

Re: $22 satellite: 22 UTG+1, 6 remain, 3 paid
Fold.
You are not close enough to the bubble to make people fold pocket pairs but they might fold a lot of unpaired overs. The main problem here is that the BB is going to call with a lot of hands and we dominate none of them. A shove is cEV+ but so is a shove with any two cards and I am certainly not shoving any 2 in this spot. Plus, with UTG sitting out in your SB there is a slightly greater chance of you getting a walk and there is also the ability to be first in with a dead BB on the next hand (which is a better time to shove than now.) |

Re: $22 satellite: 22 UTG+1, 6 remain, 3 paid
fold, because losing this hand will basically ensure you bust and you're not even really ahead of a random hand (in addition to the risk of being called along the way.)
oh, and the SB autofolding to you means something, too. |

Re: $22 satellite: 22 UTG+1, 6 remain, 3 paid
I hadn't thought about the specific benefits to me of UTG sitting out - thanks for pointing that out Cornell / Adanthar. Also the 'I'm not pushing ATC here so why push 22?' argument is an excellent one, thanks.
It was the difference between cEV and $EV that I couldn't get my head round. That's usually the case in these satellites when everyone has the same size shortstack Results FWIW: I pushed and got called by the SB with QQ and the BB with AA. LMFAO! |
