Minbet is dead, long live unlimited hold thems
Ever since I started playing poker about 3 years ago, I had played < 500 hands of nlhe ring games, and most of that was full ring. I played 95% STTs and MTTs pre legislation, then started playing short handed minbet at absolute. Here's how that went for the most part, I can only find my february graph:
(90% of that downswing was at 3/6) I think my absolute career reached a peak of $1600 (the top of that graph) and i finished $200 down, thank God for rakeback, amirite? Well, the variance of SHLHE crushed my soul. I didn't have the confidence to play my game at all. Every time I got up > 10BBs, I'd sitout quicker than mr. grimaldi. For the past 4 months or so I've been slowly spending my bankroll away and making a couple hundred bucks here and there playing STTs. My tail was still between my legs. Eventually I was tired of being almosto and decided to sack up and learn the unlimited hold thems. A couple threads in the limit forums about the state of online LHE sealed the deal for me. If these guys who are soo much better than me at minbet are unhappy with the quality of the mid/high games, what chance do I have if I ever move out of SSLHE? So the past week or so, in an attempt to dedicate myself to the NL grind, I spent almost half my bankroll putting together a new computer system so I could multitable efficiently without overlap. This was a fantastic decision, as where before I couldn't play my best game for more than an hour without fatigue, I've been able to put in a couple 3-4 hour sessions. That was unheard of for me previously. Now here's the brag. The only NL coaching I've had is a free vid scary_tiger put out for people making the transition to limit. I do think that playing in some tough shlhe games on absolute really help my hand reading abilities, especially in steal situations as well. **insert sample size disclamer here** (yes that's ptbb/100) and according to poker ev, while I'm running good, my equity balanced winrate is still 30ptbb/100 and the most important thing is i'm excited to start a session again for the first time in months. it's such a liberating feeling, you have no idea. cliffnotes: STT and MinBettor finally nuts up ang gives unlimited hold them a shot. He runs good, plays good, doubles his roll in 2k hands and swears off online SHLHE forever. |

You will never have swings playing 30/20.
Don't forget to put them to a decision for all their chips. |

Re: Minbet is dead, long live unlimited hold thems
The biggest shock I got when I switched like 8 months ago was that I couldn't rely on $4k a month from rakeback any more. I wish they would rake NL more.
