shaking of the tilt feelings
Ok so im playing another single table tourney after makeing 4th place the last 3 games due to bad beats and bad luck. So on my 4th game I bubble yet again with KK allin preflop against AK being held by some fool who out drew me by over calling his last 3 hands against me. Yes really, I don't need to hear about how its me or I must be playing wrong, as I am a winning player ; and these things do happen.
What I would like to know is does anyone have an easy, fast way to shake off the tilt feelings that rush in after a bunch of +EV plays return nothing but -V? |

Re: shaking of the tilt feelings
This works pretty well for me unless I'm out of sorts because of illness, fatigue or hunger.
Recognize the emotion for what it is, anger. Identify the source of your anger. The other player? The result? A combination of the two? How does the anger make you feel physically? In your mind, describe how the anger affects you. Once you can get a pretty good feel for what's going on and what your triggers are, you can train yourself to get over the emotion quickly. Breathing exercises and other bio-feedback tricks work very well. Oh......don't invest too much of "yourself" in the game. It's about the cards, it's not about you as a person. Some "fools" fortune, has no bearing on who or what you are. |

donk pushes all in for 200BB. you call with AA. he has A7. ends up with trips 7s. you tilt.
hmm whats my emotion? anger what is the source? my bad luck and his bad play what did that result in? my losing money because of my bad luck and his bad play. how does the anger make you feel phsyically? .....angry? how does the anger affect you? well, i'm mad. and i want to throw things. HAY I FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW. seriosuly, that was pseudo-therapy nonsense at its best. |

Re: shaking of the tilt feelings
after i read ace on the river, i used to think, well if this donk makes this play against me 10 times, im gunna make a profit in the long run, therefore i actually want him to call, if i have aces and go all in pre flop, i want to be called, regardless of what they hold. so then is it not wrong to complain about it if they get lucky and beat me, as i actually wanted action.
like i said though, this is what i DIDthink, and for a while it helped me avoid tilt. but after a months worth of bad beats and losing so so much money to complete idiots, i now have went back to throwing things and hurling abuse at my computer screen. |

Re: shaking of the tilt feelings
Thanks kyzer for the input. I know what you are saying. I think I will try a little trick I know that can help the depressed. The old smile in the mirror trick. It seems when we smile or see someone smile at us it has a positive effect on our mood, so if you smile in the mirror you will see yourself smiling at yourself and you be smiling as well. I have done this for a mood pick up and it works, so I will give it a try next tilt feeling.
If anyone else finds this works let me know. |
