I thought with villains check call on the flop I was ahead. When the straight draw completed on the turn I feared the villain had been chasing and was now value betting. What would you normally do in these situations when you have c bet the flop and then a draw completes on the turn (when you are in position or oop)?
In this particular case his turn bet seemed too strong to me and an overpair seemed no good. Was this a bluff or should I have called? If I was oop in this hand would it be better to fire a second barrel and fold to any resistance? Edit: Villain was 11/6/7 over 330 hands and a regular at NL50. I doubt you got bluffed. It's probable he had 5-5 in this spot and thought you had AK/AQ on the flop. His turn bet is probably for value.

I'm probably betting the pot on the flop here. It's not great, but there are definitely some draws out there.
On the turn, it's much more likely he has something like 77, 66, or 44, rather than something that completed the straight (maybe 55). Still, there isn't much that would bet here that you beat. JJ-88 are about it. With his stats, it's definitely possible he would be out like this with those hands, hoping you just have AcKc or something. It seems strange he would bet out here with a straight... if you had AK or whatever, he would get no action. Most of the time, I'm calling here and re-evaluating the river. You do have position, so you might get a free showdown. |

You could have bet a bit more on flop but otherwise you played this hand fine.
