Default Iverson Left Off USA Basketball Roster

I am clearly not the biggest NBA fan, but this seems like a bit of a joke to me not to even invite him if he is interested in playing. I realize that he's viewed by some as a punk and not a team player, but hell, Kobe was invited. IIRC from the last Olympics, part of the reason we sucked was that we couldnt score from the outside. It seems to me like Iverson might be one the better players we have from outside. Maybe he's just old. I dunno. Someone set me straight.

I also found it interesting that the three non-NBA invites are expected to be Adam Morrison, JJ Reddick and Greg Oden. I can clearly understand the first two, and think that Reddick might be one of the stars of the team if he gets any minutes, but Greg Oden? WTF? That seems like a joke to me. I realize that we have only one true center on the team (Brad Miller, assuming Shaq doesnt play), but there have to be better ways to get some size than a high school kid who probably hasnt played too many players bigger than 6'5". Again, someone set me straight.

It's a joke because Iverson is one of the few guys who cares and wants to play. He should be rewarded for his positive attitude about the chance to represent his country.

Iverson really impressed me during the olympics. Not especially for his play, but his representing the USA so well when so many others did not. He deserves an invite for that alone.
Despite that, he probably shouldn't be on the team. I don't really think the international game suits him.

LOL, true.

I also think AI should have been invited to the group of 25 at least, for inspirational purposes if nothing else. The guy played his heart out in the last Olympics.

As for Oden, remember that the Olympics are in 2008. Oden will likely improve a LOT in two years. So I think he's a good selection. I don't necessarily agree with Redick simply because I think we can find other 2's that are not as much of a defensive liability. But it's not so bad. He is a great shooter when open.

Personally I'm hoping Dwight Howard makes it. I like him a lot.

Ridnour can't shoot, can't play D, and isn't that good of a point guard. Nice choice.
