All thats missing is the Civ 4 expansion pack. Only previously played Civ 1 and 2, thought Civ 3 was shocking, mainly buying for the Civilisation 2 expansion packs (IMHO Civilisation 2 one of best games ever created). So that leaves me with Civilisation 4. My friends have told me good things, but after Civ 3 I'm approaching with caution, any of you guys played it? As an old school Civ fan am I about to be bitchslapped by a shoddy excuse for a game or genuinely surprised by a Civ game that works well in the new age of computers? Thought I'd let everyone know about this deal, £15 ridiculously cheap for all those games, I remember back in the day paying twice that for Civilisation 2... |

I've never played Civ 4 so I can't say for sure, but, its gotten great reviews everywhere. I think its safe to say it won't be a dissapointment.

Civ 4 is quite good. My fond memories of Civ2 won't allow me to say Civ4 is better, but it might very well be.

Is the online on Civ 4 worth bothering with?

What's wrong with Civ 3?
I ask this seriously because it's the only one I've played and I really liked it. |

I just couldn't get on board with it, I didn't like the new "culture" options and the city boundaries. I never really got past the early stages, I soon went back to playing Civilisation 2. To me Civ 3 had so much potential to be an epic game but personally I just never found it enjoyable to play

Did any of you play Colonization? That game was fun. So was Gettysburg.

I didn't like Civ 4. I once remarked that it substituted complexity for depth, and still feel that way. Also, the battle module is abysmal, one of the worst I've ever been subjected to. It was a drastic drop-down even from the pointless dithering that bogged down the rest of the game.
I liked Civ 2 a lot. |

Is the online on Civ 4 worth bothering with? [/ QUOTE ]Unless you've beaten Civ 4 single player on almost every difficulty level you will get owned playing online. People have developed perfect strats for getting techs and stuff as quickly as possible, and there are some killer units that kill the game as soon as someone can build them. Cossacks for one if you play the Russian Civ. It's still a great game though, I've lost many many hours/weeks to it. It's got great longevity, you'll play it to death for a week or two, get tired of it and then a month later come back and repeat. |
