When they 3 bet then check
This is a situation where I'm never quite sure what to do. You raise in LP and get 3 bet. You call and then villain checks the flop. Seems like everytime I bet I get c/r and if I check they pot the turn.
Here are a few examples. Assume villain is an unknown with 100bb. 1)You raise with AQ from CO. Villain 3 bets min from BB. You call. Flop is 8/2/5r. Villain checks. Your action? 2)Same as example 1 but replace your hand with JJ. If you decide to check the flop and villain checks a blank turn, what will your action be? |

Re: When they 3 bet then check
1) I c/behind with just overs against an aggressive player, probably bet at a passive one.
2) Again it's really dependant but I don't check behind much with JJ; and if I do it's against an overly aggressive opponent with the plan of shoving most turns over a lead. If i've checked the flop and he cs turn to me, i'm betting 90% of the time. |

Re: When they 3 bet then check
Betting is horrible in the first scenario and OK in the second. When you decide to bet, ask yourself why. In the first hand, your bet is a bluff; you don't want to be called. We profitably bluff by folding out better hands, and that almost never happens. We fold out AK..maybe. In the second hand, your bet is for value. We never ever ever fold out a better hand, and how often do we get called by worse? I think we extract more by checking and bombing the turn and river.

Re: When they 3 bet then check
They are clearly setting a trap. If you're on PokerStars, fold out of turn.
No, seriously, I'm going to bet in the second situation (for value), and check in the first situation (keep the pot small). I think that someone betting after being checked to twice looks suspicious, and AK might look you up here. |
