Default Top 2 Pair, check raised on turn

Opponent was around 35/11/2 over 200 hands from a prevoius session. I had just joined table, and this was my first pf raise. Put him on some kind of draw or a Q after flop, and was surprised to get check min-raised on turn with just the 8 hitting. Would you call and evalauate his river action?

Weird...
He could have JJ/A8s/KQ/QJ/QT here.
Call the bet and reevaluate on the river.

How bad is checking the TURN ?
The turn sucks and is a good card for him to make a move at the pot.
I check and call a bet on the river or bet if he checks.
