Re: Turn my computer off please
I was just getting ready to post the same problem.
When I try to shutdown, restart or log off via the start menu I get nothing. If I use the power button (laptop) I just hibernate, so when I come back on I am still under the same user. If I try to shut down, log off or restart via task manager I also get no response. I need to get into one of the other user's files on it, so it's more than just inconvenient. |

Re: Turn my computer off please
Hold down the power off key for like 10 seconds. It will turn off eventually.
A short press only sends it to sleep. |

Re: Turn my computer off please
Enable it in the BIOS setup. Something like 'power management'.

Re: Turn my computer off please
when windows shuts down it sends a signal to all processes, any process can listen for the signal and abort the shutdown.
this may be one of the many reasons, check what you have running in background and narrow it down |

Re: Turn my computer off please
How long did you wait after you pressed the button? I've found that after long uptimes, it can take a VERY long time to shutdown.

Re: Turn my computer off please
I recently put the computer on a password under an account.
Might this have something to do with it? |
