NL10 TPTK oop
Hello,
how is this hand to be played best? I tend to play weak-tight when in trouble, but Iīm really working hard on it. Reads: my 5th hand at table, villain is unkown entity. a. Given I played it as I did, should I have called the river bet? On the one hand side, he played as if he had something. Then again, he might think that I will not call that much without at flush, so maybe itīs a bluff and not for value? b. Whatīs the best line to play this hand? Thanks. Re: NL10 TPTK oop
I would bet the river. As played, I would call the river bet.
The way you played it, it looks like you're giving up on the hand. And, villain then is putting out a small bet to see if he can steal the pot, which you let him do. |

Re: NL10 TPTK oop
As played I think I would call, I'd prolly bet 2.5 at the river and fold to a raise though.

The way you played it, it looks like you're giving up on the hand. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I gave him respect. I mean, sometimes they actually DO have a hand. Ok, I need to win only 24% to make the call profitable. But then again, what can he have to call the turn with that I beat? Or should I say, "well, itīs NL10, he probably has A2o?" |

Its a great check on the river. There is 0 reason to bet this river here. Good call as well. I know you didnt mean to, but you played the river exactly right. |

Re: NL10 TPTK oop
Bet less on the flop, about $0.90, then bet more on the turn in relation to the pot. The way you played your hand it looks like a pair of Q's.
check call the river, dont fold. |

[/ QUOTE ] Remember that to call that bet you only have to be good one third of the time. It's hard to get used to calling hands where you may be the underdog, but you have to base your river calls on the pot odds vs your best estimate of how often you are ahead. It's one of the most important disciplines in poker, imagine yourself playing the hand over and over again. After 100 or more goes, would you show a profit? That's the way to analyse it. Bear in mind that you raised preflop, he must have felt he had a better than average hand in order to call. Also he called your massive flop bet, which gave extremely poor odds for a flush draw. That makes it, in my book, somewhat less likely that he has a couple of random spades, and more likely that he has a king and some other card. Most players at that level (and NL25 for that matter) don't confine themselves to playing suited aces, usually any old ace will do, so I don't think he has Ax spades that often. Yes, he will sometimes have a flush, but I wouldn't put that chance any higher than 50-50 and actually I don't think he has it even that often. You are getting really good odds for your call, so fire ahead next time. |
