Default in the blinds question, is raising vs limpers worth it?

I know this is kind of a general question, and it depends on the other players at the table. However I've been playing low buy in SNG lately $1 and $5 at Stars and I've started raising from the blinds with any two, anytime there are 4+ limpers. I raise to about 2x pot and have only ran into resistance a couple times. Is this a long term profitable play or am I leaking chips here?

Go on if it's profitable for you.

But I doubt it is.

Why do you want to play a big pot OOP with no hand? If you're raising 2x pot this needs to get everyone to fold 2/3 of the time to break even (assuming you don't spew chips with your rag hands post flop when you get called). With 4 limpers, this means all of them have to be folding ~90% of their limping range just to make it break even, which seems fairly unlikely. I doubt you have a big enough sample size to know empirically how often it will work against average opponents, let alone against specific types.

You also need to consider that a 2x pot raise looks like a monster or nothing at all. Do it rarely and you might get respect - do it often and you'll get called light or 3-bet AI by a huge range.

E2A: also hugely exploitable if I can predict that you'll do this often.

Position and pot size control is very important and you're bloating the pot OOP.

Thanks very much everyone. Haven't had it backfire yet but it's fairly obvious from all your responses that it will catch up to you so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead.

Guess I'll stick to raising with monsters from the blinds and hoping it looks like a steal.

you can only do it if your opps are capable of mucking their hand.
