Default Trouble with Fairway Woods/Thinking about going to a Hybrid

I have a Taylor Made r7 steel 3W and some Hippo 5W and can NOT stop hooking the ball. I've tried moving the ball around in my stance, along with minor alterations to my swing while on the practice range..and nothing.

I've tried hitting other fairway woods and...HOOK.

My dad suggested I try going to a Hybrid, something in the 14-17 degree range, since I have nothing to hit on the course between a driver and a 3 iron. (driver~270, 3 iron ~200) and have no problem hitting long irons.

I try and play 3 times a week and usually shoot high 70s to mid 80s (shot my lowest score of 75 last week!) so I don't think there is nothing major wrong with my swing, I just cant hit a damn fairway wood.

Any suggestions? Suggested hybrid (preferably around $100)? I am thinking baout trying out a Nickent 3DX, but am very open to suggestions. Thanks

Matt

Nike Slingshot hybrids have done wonders for my game.

This sounds a lot like my game (although I'm 20 yards shorter). I use an old 14 degree Taylor Made TP hybrid in place of any fairway woods most of the time.

The trick with buying a hybrid (like fairway woods) is to avoid the models with a draw bias. I'd definitely test a few out before buying.

Normal fairway woods FTW! Probably my favourite club in my bag, unfortunately don't get to use it alot since the course I play at is fairly short.

Completely agree. You won't get the same distance that you would with normal fairway metals.

I hit my best shot of the season so far last week. After a terrible tee shot on a par 5, pulled out the good ole' 3 wood and greened it from 290 out.

Should I go with a combo of 15/19 (or 21?) and get rid of fairway woods altogether? I'm looking to get something I can hit off the tee when the driver is struggling, go at par 5's in two, etc? I'm an erratic 12HCP, but can hit the ball fairly long (5 iron 205).

My other thought is to go with the 17 deg and see what happens, but the idea of getting two hybrids to play fairway woods and instead of a 3 iron is appealing. I really know nothing about these things and am slow on the equipment uptake.

I think this really comes down to personal preference and what shots you feel comfortable having as go-to's. I used to go Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 iron, etc. 5 or so years ago I decided to switch it up to Driver, 4 wood, 2 iron, etc. I like that setup much more, so figure out what range of distances/clubs/shot types you want to have covered and then play accordingly.

My personal opinion is that if you're hitting a 5 iron 205 you probably don't need a lot of hybrids/fairway woods (if any context might help, I hit 5 iron 190). Driver, 17*, 3 iron, etc. might be a good setup for you, and then you could add another wedge.
