In live limit games I'm very likely to loosen my requirements if there is extra blind money posted. In fact, I have a specific example from just last week...

Guy on my right missed his blinds, then came back to pay them in the cutoff. One limper in MP, he checks, and I raise from the button with A8s. I would have just tossed it were it not for the extra poster. BB calls, so does MP, but CO folds. After I drag a tiny pot with a pair of 8s, CO laments that he folded 92o and would have flopped two pair.

Comments on my play welcome. This was at a live, loose 6/12 game.

A8s on the BTN is a very strong hand. I'm a Live TAG and I would definitely at least limp the BTN with that. In your situation I would have made the exact same play.

Your table sounds like it was loose passive, which in my opinion is a dream LHE table.

In that case, I don't see why you would. Is 98s a bet and a half more profitable than 65s? Surely you're only raising 98s for Shania anyway, so it's not a factor here.

it just seemed to me that there would be some mathematical merit with more dead $ in the pot...so im completely barking up the wrong tree here?

At the right table I will, but since raising the OOP poster looks like a steal attempt, I prefer to have a hand when I raise.

Your thinking is good. Poker is fundamentally a battle for the blinds, after all, and an extra big blind adds 66% more to the mix.
