Default Small PP\'s (micro / $10NL)

Hi all,

quick question on playing small PP's. I THINK I know the meaning of set mining, basically its saying that you won't hit often, but when you do it usually pays more then the 12-1 odd chance of making your set on the flop.

How many people play low PP (-99),and how do you play them? Is the correct play to limp in and fold if you don't make your set? If you are playing 33 for instance and flop comes 10 high is it worth trying to steal the pot against players usually holding AJ+?

I suppose I'm just going through PT and seeing that a lot of the limp ins and bleeding from the stack is small PP's that seem to be getting me no where.

Or am I just not looking at the big enough picture where I hit and it pays off?

Advise for small PP's would be appreciated.

odds are like 8.5-1 first of all and about 80% of the time that you dont hit your set you should give up

If you are wanting to try to play the pp's for something other than set value, I would suggest raising them pf. Ideally you'd want to raise enough to get hu and then take it down with a cbet.

It's certainly possible to try to "steal" a pot with a low pp, but against most villains I'd need a pretty good read to bother trying.

If you are limping the pp's, I like a c/f line on missed flops.

And DLM mentioned about the odds of hitting a set. You generally want to call a pfr when it's not more than 5% of the effective stack sizes, definitely fold if greater than 10%, and use your judgement in those situations in between. This assumes you are playing for set value only.
