Default picking up another player\'s chips

An interesting situation at my table today. A player got up and went for a walk and sometime later a new player took his seat. I did not even notice that it was a new player because I was up when the first guy left and I had forgotten exactly who was there. Anyway the guy plays an orbit or two then racks up and leaves. About 15 minutes later the orginal guy comes back and wonders out loud where his chips are. We all looked around and said, oh yeah, you were sitting there - who was that other guy?

The floor was notified and they went to the tape. The casino paid the player his chips a few hours later after reviewing the tape and they are going to look out for the other guy. He had a little over $400 stolen from him.

I can see how that can happen. A guy next to me at a 1/3 game at the Wynn took a break with about $1200 on the table. One by one, other players left, dealers pushed, until I was the only person left that had seen the guy the chips belonged to.

I think if I knew I was going to dinner or something, I would rack up, especially in an uncapped game like at the Wynn.

I always wondered about that. I figured casinos had this magic technology or something. Or at least, I never questioned their explanation for why this sort of thing never happened. I guess it's really as easy as one would think...

Not really. There's security all over the place so when the victim gets back and notices his chips gone they'll check the cameras. So you're definitely getting taped stealing. Plus most people will notice/say something when a stranger sits down in an empty seat.

About 10 minutes after I sat down the 9 seat got up and went for a walk. He had on a blue shirt. About a half hour later a guy with a hat and a red shirt sat down in the 9 seat. I looked over at him and asked if he was the same guy that got up and the other players quickly said it was because they had played with him longer. He had gone upstairs and changed shirts and put on a hat after being up all night.

This to me would be normal and that is why I am surprised none of us noticed the guy I originally posted about being replaced by a stranger. I guess it also helps to get to know your neighbors a little.

Great angleshoot having a friend pick up your 400 bucks. Magically AFTER he plays an orbit you come back and make the casino give you another 400 bucks. Danny Ocean would be proud

That would be amazing, making the casino give you another $400. Let me know how you plan to do that.
