Default user \"Nate.\" being permabanned

Nate. made this thread in B&P and was PERMA-banned for it.

Wouldn't a temporary suspension -- if anything -- make a lot more sense here? Nate. is an unbelievably good poster, has given a lot back to posters in several strategy forums (he did a Well in SSHE, etc.) and is super-super-nice.

I think he was very polite and apologetic in his thread, so if I were modding B&P I wouldn't suspend him at all. But I can see how others might, so I would buy a 2-day or 3-day ban. But permanent? That is absolutely ludicrous for a poster of his stature who never once posted anything profane, obscene, never spammed, never linked to porn, never trolled, never threatened, and basically never did anything that gets people permabanned.

I'm wondering if anyone else finds this punishment WAY too harsh.

I haven't read the whole thread, but in the first dozen or so posts, I can't find anything at all that he did wrong. Why was he banned?

I read the whole thread. I don't see anything remotely worthy of a perma-ban, and I wouldn't even have sent a warning myself. The editing in 2+2's books is shoddy, and I've said so myself, although the last time I engaged Mason on the subject was probably five or six years ago. He doesn't seem to think that proper spelling and grammar are important. I see them as being not only extremely important, but low-hanging fruit. What could be easier than running a spell-check for crying out loud?

If Nate is being banned for nothing more than that thread, you can ban me as well. If there's a history that I'm unaware of (and that Nate is downplaying), that's another matter.

It's a weird post and a weird thread, but not ban worthy at all

Give me a break. Its Mason's decision. This is his company, your representing him as a moderator. If he wants to ban someone he will no matter what you or I think. Do you really think Mason has to fill in the notes like the rest of us?

Some things in life don't need to be spelled out, dig? We are all intelligent people, knowing a moderator didn't do the ban should tell us all that this decision comes from the top - and thats all that matters. My post to PJ wasn't nasty, it was nice. We know each other in real life, its unfortunate your too blinded by the internets to see that.

PS: I also dont want to see Nate go, he is a great poster and a good contributor to the magazine as well. But I think this is an issue between Mason and Nate to resolve.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Its constructive criticism! He is stating a fact, the grammar in 2+2 books isn't up to snuff. He is a great poster in the MTT forums. Just because a fact doesn't jive with 2+2 inc doesn't mean that the poster who posted the fact should be banned.

you're kidding right?

"this decision came from mason" would be a totally normal thing to say. "it wasn't a moderator decision" leaves a larger group of possibilities.

also, no, they don't pay me nearly enough around here to have "and that's all that matters" come in to effect. everyone makes mistakes, some of them even admit when they do, and that is amongst the best things I know about Mat.

i'm totally allowed to not agree with things that come from the "top," and at some point it's reasonable to expect that a moderator might at least ask why something happens and get a straight answer, instead of some middle man saying "it wasn't a moderator decision."
