Adjusting to your opponent.
Sorry, but i can't find a good title for this post.
During play yesterday (PTY NL100 6-max) I encountered 2 situations that I had a hard time adjusting to. I'm not a very experienced player and play pretty much ABC. How would you counteract these 2 players "trickyness"? Assume that I'm playing 20/15/2.5 with a slight weak-tight image. partly due to not getting hands and partly due to the fact that i actually am pretty weak-tight... Situation 1 ----------- Villain is a 23/18 type player a bit on the tricky side. He sits to my left so he always have position on me. I raise first in with hands that are in the middle/lower end of my range from my current position. Something like KQs from UTG, ATo from CO or such. Villain probably realises that i have a decently wide range here and has a habit of min-reraising me. everyone folds back to me. WTF? I really don't like any of my options here. a) folding seems terrible and really exploitable. b) calling and playing a 3bet pot OOP without initiative stinks. c) light 4-betting might be the trick but i'll still be OOP with a marginal hand quite often. d) tightening up my pf raising range? e) change tables. (i went for this one in the end. sad but true) Situation 2 ----------- Villain is a very loose player and also very aggro postflop (70/10/2). I have position on him. I've played plenty of these before ofcourse and usually come out alive but this guy had a habit of nearly *always* taking the same line. he limps preflop, I iso-raise with a decent range, say top 20%. heads up to the flop, and he leads with a 1/2 - 2/3 pot size bet. what actions should I take? a) play fit-or-fold and try to extract when i hit? b) bluff-raise frequently, preferably with overs c) call-down with marginal hands d) play draws passively or aggresively? all opinions appreciated, thanks. |

Re: Adjusting to your opponent.
Situation 1:
I usually tighten up a bit (i am loosier then u as it seems) + 4-bet pf more lightly and c/r certain flops. Situation 2: First time player donks into me i raise him with pretty much everything i have, if he calls/folds i note this |

c) he'll fold a lot, hes only 3betting you light, cause you let him do it. he actually laughs at you as hes only minraising you and you (seemingly) fold a lot to these e) if he calls your 4bets and you really have no clue how to counter him 2) b) c) d) aggro if b) works good, passive if he pays off easily all dependend on flop texture as well of course |

Re: Adjusting to your opponent.
1)
As allready said I would tighten up my range and 4bet him more often preflop. 2) I'd try to extract money from him with my good hands and play my strong draws aggressively. I don't like bluff-raising and building a pot against a 70/10 who will call with almost anything. |

c) ... he actually laughs at you as hes only minraising you and you (seemingly) fold a lot to these [/ QUOTE ] lol yeah I know and it hurts... sometimes I feel like I just need to [censored] grow a pair and just check-raise him out of his seat on the flop!! ...but that just feels like tilt-spew so I crawl back in my shell. [censored] me. |
