Poker Stars Recent Growth? "new signups have tripled"

I got some info from an unlikely source: a support e-mail. I had requested a new avatar image and had been approved for getting a new one but until today -- more than one week later -- did not have the new image. I e-mailed support and immediately the new image was working plus I got this apology/explanation:

growth, the number of new accounts created daily has more than tripled.
Due to this large increase in new accounts, approvals will sometimes take
longer than the stated 5 days.

Does "recent growth" refer to the number of new players since Party shut out U.S. players? That doesn't seem so recent to me.

They bought Full Contact Poker. I think they count them as new signups.

full contact poker was a very small room I doubt it will make much of a difference.
