Default $10 MTT: Playing AK preflop early position; mid stage of tourney

Lets play along with ***HERO*** in seat 9 shall we?

Stage #798189674 Tourney ID 1715505 Holdem Multi Normal Tournament No Limit $400 - 2007-06-27 00:46:16 (ET)
Table: 9 (Real Money) Seat #5 is the dealer
Seat 2 - HEELMAN247 ($22602.50 in chips)
Seat 3 - BIGTOOKIE ($4530 in chips)
Seat 4 - SHERWINR ($11627.50 in chips)
Seat 5 - HALFCUT ($7925 in chips)
Seat 6 - SIEYOUENTEE ($3015 in chips)
Seat 7 - OMEGAGAME ($3620 in chips)
Seat 8 - RACERRICK ($2665 in chips)
Seat 9 - ***HERO*** ($5860 in chips)
HEELMAN247 - Ante $50
BIGTOOKIE - Ante $50
SHERWINR - Ante $50
HALFCUT - Ante $50
SIEYOUENTEE - Ante $50
OMEGAGAME - Ante $50
RACERRICK - Ante $50
***HERO*** - Ante $50
SIEYOUENTEE - Posts small blind $200
OMEGAGAME - Posts big blind $400
*** POCKET CARDS ***
Dealt to HERO [Ac Ks]
RACERRICK - Calls $400

Action is to ***HERO***. What should he do????

-The pot prior to any action is $1,000 chips
-Hero is slightly above average stack is about $7,500 and HERO starts with $5,900
-About 25 people left, and top 18 payout
-This is a fairly new table and no info is known about the players

One friend suggested I push all in to make the limper fold and take the $1400 in blinds. If I'm called I still have AK to back me up. $1,400 on top of $5,900 is a 25% increase in HERO's stack.

I think looking back, ***HERO*** should raise to $1,200. If someone comes over the top, then ***HERO*** can make a decision from there, although it can be really hard to put in $1,200 and then just fold AK to someone coming over the top.

I don't think that either play is a huge favorite over the other.

What do you guys think???
