As my BR is slowly(eugh) rising, I'm wondering if I should bother with large field micro MTT; despite the high payout on first place, I'm wondering if long term grinding out smaller field MTT will simply be better $/hr longrun.
I'm also a fan of low-variance situations. My bankroll isn't one I want to have to rebuy into anytime soon. In the same regard, Overlay MTT appear obviously different from this. By nature we're freerolling a few thousand+ dollars in addition to the prizepool. So what path do ye prize winning MTT players suggest? |

Both.
Have you read my article in the June 2+2 magazine? It discusses tournament selection and this issue specifically. The one thing that's occurred to me since is that if you think you play particularly well at the final table and/or final table bubble, you may benefit from playing smaller field tournaments where you will be in those situations more often. |

I read the article; I enjoyed it. I play really really aggressive poker, so I run over bubbles and end up in FT with chipleads, or I bust on the bubble when I get caught with a 2nd best strong hand, etc.
I've made top 30 in 2000 field tournaments repeatedly in a few weeks, but these take 3-4 hours before you get down to Final 2-3 table play(where I'm strongest, I believe), and due to my style I bust on the bubble frequently. I'd say about half the time I bust and the other half I'm in the top 30% of players remaining. |
