Default Laptop for College

I am looking to buy a laptop for my freshman year and am willing to spend $1500 more or less on it. This will be a general purpose laptop used for just about everything school related as well as poker, games, movies etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get or what brands you have had success with. Any advice would be much appreciated.

The forums at notebookreview.com are top notch.

By the way, these days, you can get a decent laptop for much less than $1500 (Like $400-$999).

What about the dell xps 1210 they just came out with a model to replace it and you can get a decent system for $1000 or -$200 from dell outlet

I am completely satisfied with my IBM/Lenovo Z61p Thinkpad. It has a 1920x1200 WUXGA display which makes 4tabling +chat on the side = awesome. Make sure to get 2gb ram.

Dissatisfied with Inspiron 5150 which I purchased SEP2004. (Rather bulky, and had many hardware difficulties.[Power jack, fan/heatsink, then they sent it back to me fully 'repaired' and it wouldn't even turn on.)

Dissatisfied with Apple MacBook which I swapped for my IBM simply because Windows(readoker software) kinks weren't fully worked out yet.
