88 OTB, preflop resteal of a resteal attempt
Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
Preflop: Hero is Button with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">BB 3-bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero caps</font>, BB calls. With position, is this standard here? BB is a TAG, and I'm pretty sure he knows I'm a TAG. My thoughts are: Given the action so far, This hand is pretty easy to get away from on a bad flop. Worst case scenario, I can get a cheap showdown from him. But by taking the lead back, I think I might be able to drive out a big ace on the flop or the turn. Not to mention the fact that the TAG might try this with hands like 55-77. Standard or spewing? |

Re: 88 OTB, preflop resteal of a resteal attempt
If you want to get away from this on a bad flop, why are you 3betting? I like the logic that you are going to try to drive out a big ace, but for 8 bets in the pot, he would probably be silly not to peel one card if he thinks your stealing often with reasonable cards.

By bad flop, I mean, AQx flop, i bet, he calls, he donks the turn. Easy fold.

I think this is fine. TAGs 3bet here pretty agrro depending on your ATSB. I like the cap as he may give up a better hand.

I do this all the time because I like initiative and disguising my hand. Also because you may have villain smashed here.

usually this is capping with the best hand and hoping it holds up, not really restealing.

Re: 88 OTB, preflop resteal of a resteal attempt
when you say this hand is easy to get away from do you mean th at you will fold if he bets into you with 1 overcard on the board? I assume you bet no matter what if he checks to you? I find these situations tough headsup, so i'm wondering how you play this after the flop. personally i probably would have called his 3-bet preflop and then played pretty passively after the flop most likely folding to his aggression if overcards flop.

First off, you may have the best hand which wouldn't make this a resteal. What I really like about this though is that investing an extra small bet preflop can make your hand appear very strong allowing you to win the pot with less resistance postflop.

Re: 88 OTB, preflop resteal of a resteal attempt
Creating a big pot will tie him to the pot if he has a big ace, not drive him out. i think I call here and look for a decent flop. Our edge is over 50% equity here but it's too small to make up for the edge we can exploit postflop.
