Default 3/6 quick river against unknown

okay Full Tilt 3/6 game. Unknown villain.

Folds to the SB who open-completes. I check with Jx5s.

Flop is J73 all spades (remember, I have the 5 of spades). Check, I bet, he calls. Turn is the 5 of not spades. Check, I bet, he calls. River is the 9s. He leads and I raise.

This hand may be completely useless without reads, but I didn't have any. If you can't analyze it without stats on this guy, then ignore this post. Or, perhaps better yet, tell me against which types of opponents (and what their stats are) you like this play, if any.

Thanks in advance.

Looks good to me. There are only 3 cards that can beat you. His lead bet indicates that he has a spade, hopefully a T. It's hard to say. Since you don't know the player you could possibly use some game theory to decide what play to make.

Hmmm. Did I mess up the hand? There are a six cards that can beat me: the ace, king, queen, ten, eight, and six of spades (I have the 5s, NOT the Js).

is your raise supposed to be a bluff?

The goal is to get him to fold a bigger spade, yes.

Hmmm... I think it is difficult for him to fold a higher spade here, because if he did, he would give you an enormously profitable opportunity to bluff with anything in this spot.

A raise here is trying to exploit a certain type of error. In the absence of specific evidence that this player actually makes this error, I would not raise here. I still think you have a fair chance of winning; just not of somebody folding better hands.

I see a call, not a raise. Anything that beats us is not folding, occasionally the villain has no spade and will fold 2 pair, but a high % of time, I expect to see the A or K of spades.

Hate the raise, since he checked until the river and then lead out. Call and hope.

LOL
The way I read it there would have been 2 J of spades.

Damn, it's just like how I like to see straits that aren't there. Ignore all of it.
