Variant Poker Hand Rankings Question
As many of you will know there are alternative poker hands that can be included such as big tiger, little tiger (I just remember the terms not what constitutes them) so can anyone confirm what the name is of the five card hand that is all red and where it would rank in the normal poker hand ranks and if it is known as a lollapalooza or not.
Scarne's Guide To Modern Poker had a list of them or is it some old card game book by David Parlett? Thanks in advance for any replies. Also cross posted this in Other Poker! |

Re: Variant Poker Hand Rankings Question
A hand of all one color is known as a "Russ". It ranks just below two pair, so it beats bobtail flushes and straights, a flush house, one pair or high card (although if you play all these kinds of hands, a high card hand is pretty rare).
A lollapalooza is a hand in an old poker wisdom story, the precise definition doesn't matter. A guy is new in town and joins a poker game in a saloon. On the first hand, he gets a royal flush and goes all-in. He gets called by a player who has 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. He starts to pull in the pot, but the other player points to a sign on the wall that says "House Rule: 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] is a lollapalooza and beats all hands." So the player rebuys and continues playing. Later in the night he gets 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Again he goes all-in. He gets called by a player with an Ace-high. Again he starts to pull in the pot, when the other player points to another sign which reads: "House Rule: Only one lollapalooza per table per night." Wikipedia has a list of non-standard poker hands. |
