Default Valuetown City Limits - An intro to value betting

Hi all,

this is my third intro to a newbie-relevant topic after blind-stealing and isolation-raising. I hope this one here is a good place to start your studies on value bets, this very +EV subject in micro stakes hold'em.

I seperated the best of the mega-output of the micros into 4 sections. Enjoy.

Betting a made hand for value

A large percentage of your profit in small stakes games comes from opponents who call down with weak hands in small pots. [...] Treat good players with respect, but value bet relentlessly against calling stations.SSHE p179

Poker Wiki defines:

A value bet is a bet by a player who believes he holds the best hand, in hopes that one or more opponents will call.

Two typical examples
Taking TPTK to the river Marginal Value Bet

Taking TT to valuetown, mind the river
Some problems with value betting - egocidal

What do you prefer on the flop?
Check-raise to protect or bet for value? - Ampelmann

Betting draws for value

When you have a strong drawing hand [...] your pot equity determines whether you can bet or raise for value.
SSHE, p36

Poker Wiki defines again:

Pot equity is your percentage chance of winning the pot at any given point in a hand. That percentage is the amount of equity you have in the pot or how much of the pot "belongs to you".

An example from SSHE

All around "pot equity edge" and betting draws for value

Betting the river for value

The essence of a river value bet is not how often you have the best hand, but how often villain calls with a worse hand (Aaron W.)

Another terrific compilation. I now have all three of them in my "favorites" list and expect regular reviews of these will help me stay in focus. Great job of organizing these. Thank you.

No way! He's "The Compilator" himself and I'm much into his outstanding work seeing it as a contribution to save the micros and help use this amazing source of knowlege. I'm just giving back my filtered search results to this beautiful community.

I always liked loyalguard's "behind the scenes" and his great 1k post
