Hypothetical Bubble Situation
I am not a normal MTT player, mostly STTs, and would like opinions on a hypothetical bubble play.
Large MTT, Bubble time, you are second in chips. Chip leader is to your left, and has pushed the last ten hands. He pushes again from UTG, it folds to you in the BB, what is your calling range? |

AA,KK [/ QUOTE ] This should be moved to MTT Strat but I'll answer here. You need to specify the bubble. Is it for a seat to a bigger satelitte, to make the money, to make a final table, etc? If its just to win a seat, the bubble is about to burst and you don't need the chips you shouldn't even call with AA. For example say 5 people get WSOP seats here: Blinds 2k-4k UTG: 200k chips you: 175k player 1: 100k player 2: 80k player 3: 12k player 4: 8k This would be an easy fold with AA to the big stack push. But if its just a standard bubble to make the cash your calling range should be standard and not affected by the bubble. |

[/ QUOTE ] I had a situation very similar to this in a $250 +$25 tourney at the AC Hilton a few weeks ago. About 150 started. We were down to three tables. I was second or third in chips. The chip leader was to my left. I wake up with KK UTG and raise to five times the BB. The big stack to my left was raising and re-raising wildly earlier in the ten or so hands I saw him play after sitting down at the table. He was re-raising AI with A-8, KQo etc. After my raise UTG, this assclown pushes all-in. I am the only player at the table who can hurt him at this point. As a matter of fact, I could have crippled him. The action folds around to me but for one seriously ss who pushes. I go in the tank, fearful that this assclown has Ak or AQ and will hit an ace on me. I eventually call figuring I needed some luck here. If I held, I would cruise to the final table easily and would have a good shot at taking down the $$7,000 first prize and an entry to the NJ state poker championship. The big stack turns over QQ and the SS has 77. Prior to the flop I ask the big stack why he would do that knowing I was the only player that could hurt him. No response even though he ran his mouth the entire time I was at the table prior to the hand. Flop comes out Q66. Turn blank. River 6. I throw up in my mouth. Let fly with a couple of expletives that probably made people's ears bleed and stormed away steaming. |
