Ever feel like smashing your monitor?

I was going through some old photos, and I thought OOT might appreciate these.

A little over two years ago, me and my roommates at the time held a "smashing party" in our garage. Basically, we invited a bunch of people over and took turns smashing the [censored] out of old worthless electronics, with loud music playing in the background.

For several months ahead of time, we rounded up all the broken electronics we could find. Computer monitors, TV's, printers, anything we could get. We accepted donations from our friends as well as perusing garbage piles on neighbors' curbs.

We had an array of available weapons to choose from: a sledgehammer, a pickaxe, baseball bats, and a surprising favorite, a cue ball. Throwing a pool ball through a CRT monitor creates one of the coolest noises I've ever heard.

After the party, we just left all of the wreckage in our basement, so we could continue to smash it at our leisure. I was playing a lot of poker at the time, and I must say, that after a taking a few nasty beats, there's nothing like releasing your anger upon the remnants of a monitor with a sledgehammer.

Amazingly, no one got hurt at the party, considering that getting drunk and swinging sledgehammers ought to be a recipe for disaster. However, we may have inhaled an unhealthy amount of electronic dust or other potential carcinogens.

Also, disposing of the carnage was a nightmare. We tried loading it into cardboard boxes and duct taping them shut, but the garbage men stopped taking these after a few weeks when they started opening them and realizing what was inside.

So, yeah, in retrospect... maybe it wasn't the brightest idea. So how long till I die of cancer?
