I'm going to be a freshmen at northeastern next year and am wondering what type of laptop I should get for computer engineering. Any suggestions?

whatever kind northeastern has deals arranged for .. they'll come preloaded with software and it'll be easier to get support.

get a gateway convertible notebook. It lets you fold the screen like a tablet pc so you can write on the screen itself with a digital pen like if you were writing on paper.

Price range is probably ~$2000 or less. I am leaning towards dell because of their customer support plan (my brother has broken his laptop three times and they have just replaced it under dell's plan).

dont u think the fact that the Dell laptop has broken 3 times is cause for concern? (im trying to assume ur brother isnt so rediculous as to have broken his own laptop 3 different times).

get one thru the school. it will come preloaded with software u need, a warranty, and most likey on-campus support.

Jesus Christ, do not get a Dell. Everyone I know who has had computer problems at either UMich or Tulane has ALWAYS had a Dell.

FWIW, I have a Vaio and know a few other kids who do too, and they work really, really well. Mine came with a cool docking station.

No chance this is due to the fact that Dells are very common?

My brother basically did his own laptops in when they started to run crapy, etc. Also, I agree with hlacheen. Most of the laptops that can be bought through the school arn't really that great; basically I'm not sure how good of a laptop I need for my major.

If you spend as much on a Dell as you do on a Vaio you will get a better laptop.
