Re: OverPair Play Suggestions PLEASE
I'm shoving the flop or the turn, but I'm not sure if you can avoid going broke here at this level.

Don't think you can do much there man. Maybe fold the river but it's tough.

Thanks for the reply ne one condsider folding that hand on the folp in fear of a straight or set? [/ QUOTE ] Never. You have to figure out what he is calling your raise with. I don't think he is calling your raise with 96 or any other combination to flop a straight. Flopping a set, maybe, but you can't fold the flop, just yet. You made a preflop raise, act like you have the hand that you are representing. You played it exactly like what your hand was, a mid-pair that couldn't stand a reraise. When I first looked at this hand, my initial reaction was to raise the flop. I also thought he had a hand like AK, AQ, TT, or JJ. You could have gotten out of this hand sooner. If you raise the flop and then he calls, you can surely slow down and figure out what to do on the turn. If he checks the turn, you have a decision to make on what to do on whether you want to continue to represent a huge overpair or shutdown figuring your beat. Can he fold an overpair to this flop? I have no idea. You may be able to get to showdown without putting in another chip. I think your mistake was calling the flop and not raising it. It made the hand much more difficult to play because you never knew where you stood in the hand. Just calling through, you have no idea if he has a 7 or a 5 or an 8. If you raise the flop, you get much more information. He's probably not going to call if he just has a 7, a 5, or an 8. And if he does have an 8, that turn will make you slow down anyways, hopefully. |
