Competing on Analytics
I was shipped a gift book yesterday called "Competing on Analytics" by Harris Davenport on Harvard Business School Press with a forward by Gary Loveman, CEO of Harrah's Entertainment. It seems to be a book on data analysis for business, often applied to casino consumer analysis. Has anyone read it, and recommend it - and if so, why?

Re: Competing on Analytics
My feeling is Davenport has turned himself into a publication prostitute. He started riding the wave of knowledge management some years ago with Prusak, and he has never looked back. He quickly ran out of interesting things to say - besides the obvious ones. I see it in all areas of Academia. If people write a book every year or a paper every three months, most of it will be junk, because it takes a lot longer to put anything worthwhile together. This could be an exception, and for once he may have stumbled onto something interesting, but the odds are against it. Do tell us how you feel after having read it, though. [/ QUOTE ] Any idea how this all relates to casino management? The book was given to me because of the forward by the Harrah's CEO. Of course I first searched on Amazon and the net for reviews, but i couldn't seem to figure out the connection. |

Any idea how this all relates to casino management? [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm ... not really. KM is a strategic thing and analytics is too, apparently. It used to be about being a 'knowing organisation' and now, again apparently, an 'analysing organisation.' They could be on to something or it could just be the latest fad. |
