Default Any success stories?

Hi,
1. I'm a talented poker player (I know this from poker playing professionals) playing NL 2/4. I seem to have a split personlity. One, that is ME, is 100% emotionally stable. The other one is 100% self-destructive. It is really amazing. I can be playing extremely good poker 19 days and then just like pressing a button I do everything I can to make things bad for me. I know that I'm doing the wrong thing - I even think it - but I do it anyway. Why?????

2. Is it even possible for a cumpulsive player to overcome his self-destruction? Are there ANY examples of this? Going from "good but tilting" to "good and stable".

3. I always think that "I have to make money now, in 5 years the boom will be over" but I'm beginning to think that I'm fooling myself. Maybe the best thing for the problem player is never pushing yourself and justview poker as a hobby.

But still... I know that I'm very gifted and I want to use it for something.

Thank you.

All you can do is work at it.

When you feel yourself calling out of frustration or because you just want to see how you got sucked out on, stop playing.

Work on whatever it is that is triggering this behavior. Try to stop slipping into that mode in the first place.

Profit.

Does this apply only to poker or do you exhibit self-destructive behaviors in other endeavors? If only poker, then stop doing it. If it is a feature then you need to figure out what you're playing out.

Good luck.

Hi. It is not like that at all. I almost NEVER "call out of frustration" a normal session. I play verygood sessions but about 3% of them I'm on tilt from the beginning. I play HU NL ten times higher then I have bankroll for and always seem to find a way to get my money in with 0 outs. I even remembered one time pre flop when I though "he has aces" and then pushed it in, only to see them.

It's really quite sick. Everyone who watch me play (over the net) thinks that I'm letting another person play. They don't get it. Grinder one day and the next day kamikaze.

Whatever it is when you feel yourself starting to do it, stop playing and start surfing for midget porn.

Edit--And I know exactly whereof you speak. I once had the following conversation with myself.

Me: Hmm, he must have the ace [this would give him the nut straight, non paired board, no flush possible] Think I can push him off it?
Me: No, it's the nuts.
Me: Lets try it anyway [pushes]

WTF kind of logic is that? There's zero chance of him folding, you're beat, and you shove all your chips in WTF?

I suspect if you take the pressure off yourself you will do a lot better. I recently started supporting myself with poker and whenever I put the pressure on myself to do well it tended not to happen and I would make bad decisions etc. However when I relaxed and just played I made great decisions and no self destructive tilting. Its really unrealistic to think your not going to tilt ever especially when your just getting used to poker as a job, make sure you get away from the tables a decent amount of the time that will definitely help to get some of the pressure off in my experience GL.

Hahaha i have this too, its soo stupid. I have to tell myself then, hmm lets wait for a better spot to bust him. I try to think if its a good spot, if its dodgy i wont go for it. And u shouldnt play then when ur bored or tired, i do this stuff alot when thats the case.

If i would have followed the rule of 'dont play when bored, tired etc', I would be playing 50 NL now taking shots at 100 NL (now im doing 25 taking shots at 50). such a damn shame, last week went pretty good, nearly no tilt.

If this is true (and I am not questioning whether it is or not)...then use your gift to overcome tilt. I've been trying to do it for 3+ years and am still working on it.
