Ultima Online -- Anyone still playing that?

With all the recent MMORPG posts I thought I would go back to the one that pretty much began it all, UO.

I played this way back in the day ('97 til like '00) but still think it is one of the most fun games ever. I would continue to play it but after I stopped for a little while and lost track of upgrades, it will be hard coming back.

Anyone, anyone still playing this or played it back in the day?

I played it back in the day too. Man that was fun. I remember having a full set of black platemail because it looked cool. I was in a guild of PKers and a large group of us would wander dungeons murdering people. Fun fun.

Yeah I played UO from when it launched till '99. I was also heavy into PvP and was a PKer. Old school UO is probably my favorite game of all time. It's just not the same anymore, since they've made so many changes. Although I haven't played an OSI (EA?) shard in over 5 years.

Last year I was playing on www.uogamers.com It was actually a really large player run shard(unlike a lot of lame ones out there that have less than 100 people). It's also completely free to play on, with a rule set almost exactly like UO back in 96-99. If any of you guys who used to play back in the day ever get an itch to try UO again, you can do it for free there. Not sure what the player population is now, but I'd be curious to know.

I played on Player Run Shards for a few years after EA trashed UO. Some of them were pretty fun. I wouldn't mind playing again but it's really hard starting back up by yourself. Most of the people I know from UO won't play anymore.

I also played on GL for a bit... tried to actually come back last year. But most of what I liked about UO originally was trashed by then. Instead of the some skill/some ping speed PVP game I remembered, it became 99% PVM and all PVP was item based. Couldn't compete without spending tons of time or cash to get the gear to play - at least thats what I felt after my return for a week. Total return time - 1 month.

I was a Chesapeake man myself. Man...I wish I could go back and play the game in '97 again with all those people before trammel and crap (although faction wars kicked ass)
