Default Eating breakfast=losing weight ... true or false?

I always here people talk about the importance of eating a good breakfast, and I completely agree with this. It is clearly healthy to do so.

What I do not understand are the claims that eating breakfast, in and of itself, promotes weight loss. All things equal, how does putting more calories in your body contribute to weight loss? Even if it "gets your metabolism going", does that really offset the few hundred calories you're adding into your day's diet by eating even a very healthy breakfast (say egg whites with broccoli and green peppers)?

What is the real scientific truth behind all the breakfast hype?

trapsetter,

I don't think the mean adding 300 cals but readjusting them. They are very correct in this case, but you would also be correct. You're not gonna overcome a 15% increase in cals in metabolic gains. But if you take a small part of your later meals and move it to breakfast. You're in.

My understanding of it is that it helps limit snacking between meals. From my experience that is the case. You don't have to eat a huge breakfast to see this. I saw this just having one packet of oatmeal and some coffee.

like kerowo said, eating a solid breakfast will prevent things like snacking and make you less hungry as the day goes on, that way you get a lot of your cals in the early day and less at night, like a ramp...

Eating fewer calories equals losing weight.

Right, and this obviously makes great sense both from the weight loss and general health standpoint.

If I eat breakfast, I'm not starving by lunch, so I'm can eat a more modest lunch and still feel okay, and still have it last me through to the early evening's dinner time. If I don't, I gorge on lunch and still yet am often starving by dinner. Sometimes that leads to not only huge meals later, but snacking in between. Breakfast seems to put me on an even keel.

It's also less likely to put your body in starvation mode and make it store as much as possible as fat.

And, in the morning, your calories supposedly are burned up more easily, as after fasting overnight(sleeping etc.), your body really needs the food. So it's less likely to push those calories into fat.

See, this is such crap. Everyone else feels this way, but if I eat breakfast, then I am ravenous for the rest of the day.

What a bunch of [censored].

It doesn't matter what I eat (bagel, cereal, whatever), I get more hungry if I eat something in the morning as compared to not eating anything.

It's not that big of a deal, but it is annoying when you're trying to cut calories!
